General Practice is the field within Medical Practice concerned with primary health care. The General Practitioners also known as GPs either operate their own independent General Practice surgeries or work for Primary Care Trusts. The Primary Care Trusts normally include one or more General Practices or operate clinics where other medical care providers such as pharmacists, optometrists, dentists, and physiotherapists form part of a team.

The General Practitioner or GP is often the first consultant for the patient and will refer patients to specialists such as cardiologists, radiologists, and urologists where surgery or more advanced treatment will be required.
